Worst Ice Skater Ever?

002
Have you ever seen an ice skater that was so bad,
012
that he just kept falling,
052
and everyone started laughing at him?
059
We all secretly do it sometimes. But it's okay because we all know what it's like to embarrassingly fall on ice!
016
While watching ice skaters one day, Matty and I thought of a fun idea to trick people into thinking an ice skater was so terribly bad,
057
that he couldn't even get off the ice when the zamboni came out.
021
When people began laughing at him,
067
he started to get better and better,
031
and completely shocked everyone,
069
when they saw him transform from an amateur to a professional!

We ended up turning our idea into an Improv Everywhere prank. He sort of reminds me of the male version of Susan Boyle ;)

  2. That is SO funny! The ideas you come up with... You amaze us all!

  3. Did people understand near the start that he was performing? Or were a crowd of people just laughing while watching a guy stranded and struggling?

I like the concept of him getting better and better, but that aspect of this troubles me.

  4. that is awesome! he gives hope to all of us horrible ice skaters out there ;) haha

  5. That's so awesome!!!! ..because that's totally how I feel on ice...except I still suck.

  13. Katie, what a creative idea for a project.

It makes my heart hurt to watch that guy struggle out there and no one helps him, though!

But then he gets to have the moment that everyone who's ever been laughed at dreams about! "Look at me now!"

  14. Aw, I felt so sorry for him at the beginning. Great job to all who worked on this. You are all so talented!

  35. This is a sweet way to show people that they shouldn't judge a book by it's cover without actually pointing out how often we really do it.

Also I think this could be a great portrayal of resilience. We all look clumsy and awkward when we first put on skates. But this man obviously had the determination to skate through everyone's laughter, now he is showing us all a little about ourselves with his art. A lot like you do everyday Katie.

    Thank you for posting.

  36. maravilhosa!!

    beijos...

  37. This is so amazingly sweet! But anyway, people shouldn't make fun of bad skaters! We all try! :D

  54. Katie - I love this!
I'm a fan of yours living in Vancouver - we totally love that the skater was wearing the mittens. My little girl and I went to an Olympic figure skating event, and have fond memories of how the olympics took over our city last year. Thanks for making us smile! :)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  65. GAH! If I was there, and everyone was laughing at him, I would have gone out there right away to help him, and lead him in! This was a huge metaphor for me- when you let people figure it out themselves, they become empowered and the miracle occurs-
thank you for posting this- it brought tears to my eyes and helped motivate and inspire me!
    love and hugs to you

ps- I LOVED his Vancouver 2010 gloves, thats my home town, and it pulled on my heart strings even more that he wore those!
