A Series of Unfortunate Events

I've had a very intense week and am feeling emotionally exhausted. When I start feeling afraid I remind myself of a quote from one of my favorite movies...
"At times the world can seem an unfriendly and sinister place, but believe us when we say there is much more good in it than bad. All you have to do is look hard enough. And what might seem to be a series of unfortunate events, may, in fact, be the first steps of a journey."

It helps me feel optimistic and excited for what will happen next. Hopefully it'll help out anyone here that's also having a tough week =)

Thank you. That quote is written here on the wright day! I'm a very patient person and I always want to do good, but I got a little bit mad because of a rude busdriver.

I'm studying to be a nurse and this was the second time during my education that I thought "Ha, you should be my patient... you would regret being unfriendly." Not that I'm angry person and I would never treat patients different because of their behaviour, but at that moment I always ask myself why people are unpolite.

And today I came up with the idea of Sweet Revenge: giving every "acidified" person 30 kilos sugar through infusion. Haha, acidified isn't the correct word of course, but in dutch we say people are "soured" when they are grumpy and pessimistic about life and society.

So thanks for the optimistic quote and your colorful inspiration. So as a nurse-to-be I say: rest enough and give yourself some attention. :-)

Oh, I totally agree with that quote! And it's been a tough week for me, too. I arrived in California (from Argentina) to to marry my fiance and settle down here. David's family have been nothing but firneldy and welcoming but being so far away from my loved ones and everything I know is so weird!

Hope you feel better by now! There's always a reason to smile and keep going! :D

I live by this quote too! After losing everything I own in a house-fire, the breakup of a lifetime with my best friend and boyfriend, and losing friends and a my entire lifestyle, and then deciding to drop out of college... well, life went BOO-KOO for me and even though I can look at it as a Series of Unfortunate Events.. I have found more hope, love for life, and inspiration in looking at it as the beginning of a fantastic journey! THANKS for this post! Hope your journey brings you peace&love!

I'm sorry you had a rough week. I did too. But be happy in knowing you motivated me to get off my butt and blog again. I let myself get caught up in worthless nothingness and I hadn't taken a photo in too long. If you can post even when you're drained I can too.

Oh, it helped.
I also am having such a bag week surrounded by negativity.
I enjoy that perspective . . . .the open-mindedness of looking towards something new to come out of something . . . .

Your photos alone are enough to brighten my day. Thank you, again Katie!!!!

I have this philosophy that not all people have the exact same emotional scale; some have a shorter one, which makes them seem pretty stable most of the time (my husband is like this), and some of us have a very wide scale where sometimes we're floating up to the moon and sometimes we're in the depths of despair.

Even though it sucks sometimes, it comforts me to acknowledge that my capacity to feel such intense fear and sadness is also my capacity to feel such happiness.

So hang in there! You might be at the bottom of your scale, but take comfort in the faith that you will come back up again. :)

Hi Katie

Thanx for a wonderful blog. I've only just discovered it today but it makes me really happy. Your art is amazing! (or is it ours?) and it makes a dark and sinister day colourful and full of life.

If you're having a tough week, just tie a ribbon in your hair and a brilliant idea will pop up!

Best regards

February 8th was my 31st birthday. I was having such a horrible week, everything just falling apart. Yesterday, my birthday was the bitter icing on a disappointing cake. It's been taking all my energy to keep from breaking down into little pieces and just giving up.
Katie- you helped. You help a lot of people just by making them smile. Thank you for being you, and here's to the first steps of all of our new adventures.
